Figure 2. Visual simulations (eight photos) of night sky quality at Acadia National Park. These are panoramas of “light domes” as seen from Cadillac Mountain in Acadia. Image 1 (top) is a natural night sky based on observations taken in the park in 2008. Each of the next images shows a three times increase in artificial light. Image 8 (bottom) shows a severely light-polluted sky. These simulations were prepared by the NPS Natural Sounds and Night Skies Division.
