Keith Rocco - Jamestown, 1630s: Harvey's Industrial Enclave
Summary
Virginia Governor John Harvey (1630-35; 1637-39) helped to develop many of the industrial and craft operations at Jamestown early in the second quarter of the seventeenth century. The failure of his industrial ventures highlight both the extent to which development in Jamestown and the colony was linked to individuals, and the difficulty of creating commodities able to compete with tobacco (Keith Rocco, artist).
