Summary

Diagram showing external and sectional view of British No. 69 anti-personnel hand grenade.
Construction is of bakelite. Filling is 3¼ ounces Lyddite, Amatol 80/20 or Baratol 20/80. Total weight is 13 ounces. Explosive effect is confined to a small area.
Operation :

Detonator is inserted into base hole and base plug is replaced.
Adhesive tape is removed and safety cap is unscrewed and removed.
A length of tape with a weight on the end wrapped around the safety pin restrains the striker. When thrown, the weight causes the tape to unwind and pull out the safety pin.
On impact the striker is forced into the primer cap which initiates the detonator and explodes the grenade.
