Planting Bed at Kerr Notch - Public Domain image, National Parks Gallery
Summary
Rim Drive Historic District. Although it is now denuded of vegetation, this small planting bed lined in stone is an example of the the use of vegetation in the landscape design. Although these overlook planting beds vary in size and composition, they generally host a wider variety of plants than where the old road was removed or where slopes were stabilized with trees. None of the planting beds retain their original edging of treated and partially buried logs with chamfered ends.
