Rct. Jamal H. Dees, Platoon 3017, Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, removes lint from a fellow recruit’s uniform before his boot camp photo is taken Jan. 13, 2016, on Parris Island, S.C. This photo is normally identified as a Marine’s official Marine Corps photo and has been taken in training since the 1950’s. Dees, 19, from St. Petersburg, Fla., is scheduled to graduate March 4, 2016. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for approximately 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Sgt. Jennifer Schubert)
