Photo of San Marcos Pottery - Public domain dedication
Summary
San Marcos pottery was made by Native Americans from the 1500s-1700s, at the time of European contact. It is generally thick, tempered with grit (large pieces of sand), and often decorated with stamping or punctations. The Timucua, who lived in our area when the Spanish arrived, created pottery like this.
