Summary

While there is something here for those interested in different sail-plans (Wikipedia) ( Sail-plan ) , I guess the main question here was always going to be "where are we". And in particular whether this Mason shot is in Ireland?..Today we were treated to masterclass by John Spooner ( /photos/johnspooner/ ) who identified the location as Port Skillion, Isle of Man. He also tells us that the lighthouse is the Douglas Head lighthouse and establishes a likely date. Furthermore he tells us that the bathing place we can see in the mid right of our photo is "possibly the first open air swimming pool in the British Isles". ...Main author: Mason, Thomas Holmes (1877-1958) ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Author/Home?author=Mason, Thomas Holmes, 1877-1958 photographer ) ..Contributors: Thomas H. Mason & Sons photographers..Collection: Mason Photographic Collection ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Collection/vtls000314178 ) ..Date: ca.1890-1910 (likely before 1892)..NLI Ref: M49/1 ( vtls000543092 ) ..You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at catalogue.nli.ie ( http://catalogue.nli.ie )

Images from our photo collections that show those magnificent men (and women) in their flying, choo choo-ing, and driving machines... Oh, and we've cheated, we're adding boats and ships, jaunting cars and carriages, trams too and bicycles - we're completely shameless. So, basically any form of transport - air, sea, land - with the exception of two human feet...
