U.S. Marine Corps drill instructors with Support Battalion demonstrate crunches to new recruits of November Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, July 28, 2017, on Parris Island, S.C. The minimum physical requirements for female recruits are 44 crunches in two minutes, one pullup and a 1.5-mile run in 15:00. November Company is scheduled to graduate Oct. 20, 2017. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
