Dept., U.S.A., and Curator of Armor at the Museum, armor for the American soldiers fighting in France is being designed. The actual labor is being performed by Assistant Curator of Armor at the Museum, Daniel Tachaux and his assistant Sergt. Jacquest Bartel, of the Ord. Dept. american soldiers wearing this armor have gone into actual battle to test the effectiveness of the covering, and upon the result of the experiments depends whether the soldiers are to wear armor. American soldiers wearing this armor have gone into actual battle to test the effectiveness of the covering, and upon the result of the experiments depends whether the soldiers are to wear armor. Old helmets on exhibition in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, N.Y. These helmets are of Italian origin dating back to the 15th century. They are technically known as Saladebarbute, and are all of Milanese workmanship. The helmet on the extreme left is of classic design, and follows the fashion set by the ancient Greeks. These helmets are being studied by military experts so that the good points will not be lost in designing modern armor

The fully operational World War II (WWII) Victory Ship SS LANE VICTORY pulls into San Diego for Memorial Day weekend. The supply/troop transport vessel served with distinction and valor in the later part of WWII, Korea (Chosen Reservoir Operation) and Vietnam wars. VICTORY, built in Los Angeles in 1944, returned home after 44 years and now serves as a Maritime museum. Named after Isaac Lane, a black man who rose from slavery to become a Bishop in the Methodist Episcopal Church and founded Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee (TN) in 1882. His granddaughter christened the ship in 1945. Berthed in the background is the US Navy (USN) Aircraft Carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68)
