Bellingham, Mass., July 27, 2013 -- FEMA Mitigation Specialists joined Home Depot Associates at the Bellingham Home Depot for Hurricane Preparedness Day. The day-long event was intended to educate concerned homeowners on staying safe and reducing property damage from the next storm. Printed materials were available to encourage preparedness at home, at work and throughout the community. A see-through, disaster avoidance model house constructed with hurricane straps, anchor braces and specialized building materials (in background) demonstrated how homes can better withstand the forces of a hurricane. More than 700 Home Depot stores from coastal Maine south to Florida and west to the Texas Gulf coast participated in the day-long hurricane awareness/education fair
