American soldiers, convalescent patients at the big American Red Cross Hospital at Salisbury, England, spend a great deal of time is assisting on the Farm, particularly the work among the cows. The Farm has one of the finest herds of Guernseys and Jerseys in England, all pedigree cattle, donated by the Farmers of the Islands of Jersey and Guernsey, as a mark of their appreciation of the American effort in the war. Most of the soldiers in this picture are convalescent wounded from the Atlantic Seaboard States who were wounded in the big push around St. Quentin, when they broke the Hinderburg Line. Captain Frank S. Peer of Ithaca, N.Y. the director of the Farm, is seen in the center of the group, in the Civilian Costume

Milking time at the American Red Cross Hospital at Salisbury, England. The milk maid are shortly to donate uniforms as privates under Captain Frank S. Peer, of Ithaca, N.Y., director of the farm. The convalescent soldiers who are learning farming at the Hospital are under the direction of non-commissioned officers selected from their own number. One of these, Corporal Niell of Gastonia, N.C. is shown in the picture with a Red Cross comfort bag on his head in place of his cap. The hospital farm herd consists of half Jerseys and half Guernseys

This type of dairy stock at the American Red Cross Hospital Farm at Salisbury England. The photograph shows Captain Frank S. Peer, director of the Farm, with one of the Jersey cows which are now furnishing milk to the big Hospital. Mr. Peer comes from Ithaca, N.Y. The cows at the Farm include thirty Jerseys and 30 Guernseys all of which were donated by the farmers of the little Islands of Jersey and Guernsey, in the English Channel, as a mark of their appreciation of the American effort in the war

One of the Jersey cows at the American Red Cross Hospital at Salisbury, England. The sixty cows which are furnishing milk and cream for the American soldiers in the Hospital are half Jerseys and half Guernseys. All of them were donated by the people of the Islands of Guernsey and Jersey, and they are the pedigree stock, carefully selected by the farmers themselves

Henry P. Davison, chairman of the War Council, of the American Red Cross Hospital Farm at Salisbury, England, and inspects the herd cows given by the farmers of the little Islands of Jerseys and Guernseys by the farmers of the little Islands of Jersey and Guernseys, in the English Channel. The hospital herd includes thirty Jerseys and thirty Guernseys including some of the finest stock in the little Islands. Early in Nov. Mr. Davison made a tour of inspection of American Red Cross activities in the South of England. He made a special point of seeing the Salisbury cows. He is shown here with one of the Guernseys

A group of the Jerseys and Guernseys at the Red Cross Hospital Farm, Salisbury, England, in charge of Corp. W.C. Barr of Brooklyn, who is shown in the center with arm in sling. He is a University man who takes a keen interest in the work of the Hospital Farm, and has been put in charge of a squad of convalescent soldiers working with the cattle and learning Dairying. The Hospital Farm also has several Farm Girls, all of whom are English. The girl shown in the picture is wearing a land girl dress, known in England as a "Yorkshire Smock." All of these girls are being put into American Red Cross uniforms specially designed for the purpose

Bringing home the cows. American soldiersm convalescent patients at the big Salisbury Hospital near Southampton, England are learning farming on the 186-acre farm attached to the Hospital. The photograph shows some of the prize Jerseys and Guernseys, sixty of which were given to the American Red Cross by the Farmers of the Islands of Jersey and Guernsey. At one side of the picture are seem some of the trees of the Hospital Farm Orchards, while beyond, over the tops of the trees, are seen the roofs of the Farm Greenhouses

Milking time at the American Red Cross hospital farm at Salisbury, England. Corporal Niell of Gastonia, N.C. tries his hand under the direction of the English milkmaid. The Corporal is wearing a Red Cross comfort bag in place of his cap, most of the men in the picture are wounded American soldiers from the Western front, who are convalescent patients allowed to spend their spare time in learning farming on the Red Cross farm. The medical staff at the Hospital is very enthusiastic about the farm work as a means of bringing convalescent soldiers back to health. Most of the Doctors and Nurses are from Kentucky, and many of them knew considerable about the farming themselves

The Farm is a good tonic for the American convalescent soldiers. At the American Red Cross Hospital, Salisbury, England, the convalescent soldier spends a great deal of time in doing work of all kinds on the 186-acre Farm. The boys are great friends with the cows, of which the Farm has sixty half Jerseys and half Guernseys. Always a group of the soldiers may be found where the cows are. Here are two of the sent back to the hospital in England after the St. Quentin Push. Both of the soldiers have their Red Cross comfort bag, for the soldier in the Hospital uses his comfort bag as a lunch basket when he is out on the farm
