The fully operational World War II (WWII) Victory Ship SS LANE VICTORY pulls into San Diego for Memorial Day weekend. The supply/troop transport vessel served with distinction and valor in the later part of WWII, Korea (Chosen Reservoir Operation) and Vietnam wars. VICTORY, built in Los Angeles in 1944, returned home after 44 years and now serves as a Maritime museum. Named after Isaac Lane, a black man who rose from slavery to become a Bishop in the Methodist Episcopal Church and founded Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee (TN) in 1882. His granddaughter christened the ship in 1945. Berthed in the background is the US Navy (USN) Aircraft Carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68)
