Of note on the Waterton Canyon Trail in Waterton Canyon in Jefferson County, Colorado, one of metropolitan Denver's favorite workout venues, besides the bicylists, hikers, walkers, and horseback riders, is the little box on the roadside sign. In it is a sophsticated sensor that collects a usage count on the trail by detecting passersby's body heat. The trail is a patrolled environment managed by Denver Water, the city's public water utility, and the U.S. Forest Service
