George Barker (1844–1894)

His images were widely reproduced in books and magazines of the time and helped to popularise the Isle of Wight as a tourist destination.
As well as landscape photography, Barker also took portraits of prominent people of his day, including members of the Royal Family. He died in 1894 at the age of 50, but his legacy as a pioneering photographer lives on.
