At Afghanistan's election night joint press conference, the Minister of Interior Bishmillah Mohammady thanked the people of Afghanistan for a successful parliamentary election. The minister stated that "the enemies of Afghanistan used every resource to hurt the process - propaganda, threats - but once again, the Afghan people successfully thwarted their attempts and voted." There were 5,355 polls open for this election and 3,642,444 Afghans cast their votes. The minister continued to praise the determination of the Afghan people. "Congratulations to the people of Afghanistan who today exercised their democratic right to vote. Congratulations also to the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the police and soldiers who bravely secured the Afghan people's right to vote." The police were successful in confiscating more than 4 thousand fake voter ballots.
