Bajada de Cristo al Limbo (Sebastiano del Piombo)
Summary
Harrowing of Hell
Public domain photograph of 16th-century Italian painting, free to use, no copyright restrictions image - Picryl description
Sebastiano del Piombo (1485–1547) was a grandiose artist of the Italian High Renaissance. He was one of the greatest Venetian painters but then moved to Rome, where Raphael and Michelangelo dominated. Perhaps personal modesty kept him from active competition because it was an era of intense artistic individualism. Nevertheless, his paintings show evidence of true generosity
