Shipbuilding. "Liberty" ships. Wooden templates are used as patterns for the laying out of a number of steel plates. These workers are transferring the templates designs, or patterns, to steel, to be used in ships under construction at a large Eastern shipyard. All parts are prefabricated in this huge Eastern plant which formerly turned out freight cars. The completed sections are then carried six miles to the ways on flat cars. Conservation. Scrap iron and steel. A building truckload of discarded automobiles stripped of all usable parts and non-ferrous materials is delivered to a scrap iron dealer's processing plant in Baltimore, Maryland. This steel will be baled in huge hydraulic presses and sent to steel mills to feed the ever hungry furnaces now turning out steel for the national defense production program
