Women engineers..Local number: SIA Acc. 90-105 [SIA2008-5569]..Summary: In 1964, Barbara Kegerreis Lunde (b. 1937) was an aerospace engineer at the Goddard Space Flight Center of the National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA), and is shown conferring with unidentified colleagues; by the mid-1980s, she was working on fiber optics research in the private sector. The caption on the reverse of this NASA photograph explained that the "lady space scientist" had become an engineer "because she liked dealing with absolute facts," and added, "she also likes bikini swim suits." In 1986, Lunde, by then a fiber optics engineer at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, began marketing a line of silver-coated nylon underwear (the brand was called "Silver Lining") said to help screen electromagnetic pulses from televisions, computers, and microwave ovens.
