Containing circuit and assemblydrawings as well as illustrations de- scribing 67 different equipments andsystems, they form a complete refer-ence in miniature to the apparatusand its proper operation and mainte-nance, prepared with a special regardfor the particular needs of the engi-neer in the field. Throughout the war, these bulle-tins were kept up-to-the-minute, re-flecting all changes and modificationsin existing equipments immediatelyand keeping abreast of the initial ap-pearances of new equipment and sys-tems as they were introduced. S: Standing in front of the jeep is one of the i8 Bell System engineers who worked onmilitary communications in the European Theater as members of the Western Electric field engineering force modifying of the technical bulletinsand miscellaneous manuals which fieldengineers and Service personnel alikefound invaluable in their work. Em-bracing 20,500 pages of a specialsmall size compiled into neatly boundloose-leaf volumes, each from two tothree inches thick, more than a scoreof these have been published for theguidance of the Field EngineeringForce. Perhaps in no other respectwas the experience of ERPI so strik-ingly apparent as in the conceptionand preparation of these bulletins,which served at once as authoritativeinstruction manuals and as referenceworks. Somewhere between the glamourand diversity of the overseas field en-gineering assignment and the steadybasic work in domestic locations come the activities of the field test group.
