"Pinkertons" tell all, Washington, D.C. Sept. 25. Robert A. Pinkerton, (left) youthful president of the Pinkerton Detective Agency, and Asher Rossiter, as they appeared before the Senate committee investigating strike-breaking. Pinkerton told the committee of the gross income of the million dollar company for the years 1934,1935 and part of 1936. The gross income of the Pinkerton Agency for the first seven months in 1936 reached the staggering total of nearly $1,500,000. Rossiter described the labor inquiries his firm made for General Motors, Bethlehem Steel Corporation, Baldwin Locomotive Works and the New York Shipbuilding Corporation. The Harris & Ewing, Inc. Collection of photographic negatives includes glass and film negatives taken by Harris & Ewing, Inc., which provide excellent coverage of Washington people, events, and architecture, during the period 1905-1945. Harris & Ewing, Inc., gave its collection of negatives to the Library in 1955. The Library retained about 50,000 news photographs and 20,000 studio portraits of notable people. Approximately 28,000 negatives have been processed and are available online. (About 42,000 negatives still need to be indexed.)
