Erin Godwin (Field Technician, Louis Berger Group) excavates an amputated limb.
Stephen Potter of the National Park Service led the excavation of a pit of amputated limbs and two complete individuals at Manassas National Battlefield Park from October 19th to 21st, 2015. The excavation was conducted by archaeologists from the National Park Service (Karen Orrence, Marian Creveling, and Brandon Bies), Louis Berger Group (John Bedell, Greg Katz, Erin Godwin, and Julia Elsey), and Skeletal Biology Program from the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History (Douglas Owsley, Kari Bruwelheide, Kathryn Barca, and Kate Sherwood).
