NAVAL STATION GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Aug. 14, 2007) Gas Turbine System Technician (Mechanical) 2nd Class T. A. Keith, from Round Rock, Texas, instructs Seaman Travis Carter, from Rolla, Mo., on the proper stance when firing a 9mm pistol at Recruit Training Commands indoor range facility. Carter, the Recruit Chief Petty Officer for Division 253, is one of several candidates recruited for special warfare operator ratings. Division 253 is the third Special Warfare Operations division to go through recruit training. The division is made up of rating candidates for special warfare operator, special warfare boat operator, Navy diver and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD). It is part of a new Navy and Special Warfare Command initiative to grow the ranks of SEALs, littoral and riverboat squadrons, dive units and EOD detachments. U.S. Navy photo by Mr. Scott A.
