Paulus van Liender was a Dutch painter who was born in Amsterdam in 1731. He is known for his landscape paintings, often depicting scenes of rural life and nature. Van Liender was a pupil of the famous Dutch painter Jacob van Ruisdael and was strongly influenced by the Dutch landscape tradition. Van Liender's paintings are characterised by his attention to detail and his use of light and shadow. He often depicted the changing seasons, with autumn and winter scenes being particularly popular. Water, such as rivers, lakes and canals, was also frequently depicted in his paintings. Van Liender was a member of the Amsterdam Guild of Saint Luke, and he exhibited his work at the guild's annual exhibitions. He was also a popular teacher, and many of his students went on to become successful artists in their own right. Van Liender died in Amsterdam in 1797, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful landscape paintings that are still admired today.
