Hydraulic Dive - National Parks Gallery

description

Summary

Glen Echo Park-Clara Barton House. Left: A drawing from Lorenzo Shaw's 1907 patent application for the "Hydraulic Dive" from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; Right: Visitors to the Glen Echo amusement park enjoying the ride, ca. 1908. The ride was a gentle roller coaster that sprayed two plumes of water upward from each of its cars. It may also have passed through a waterfall. It was installed near the park's entrance in 1908 and removed in 1911-12 to make way for a new coaster, the "Gravity Rainbow."
