Marius Borgeaud - A black and white photo of a man in a suit and tie

description

Summary

Français : Portrait du peintre suisse Marius Borgeaud en 1899.

Marius Borgeaud (1861-1924) was a Swiss painter known for his colourful and expressive works. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva and later in Paris, where he was influenced by the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists. Borgeaud's paintings often depicted scenes from everyday life, including landscapes, still lifes and portraits. He was particularly interested in capturing the effects of light and colour, and his works are characterised by bold brushwork and vivid hues. Borgeaud was also a member of the Fauvist movement, which emphasised the use of bright, unnatural colours to convey emotion and sensation. Despite his success as an artist, Borgeaud struggled with depression and alcoholism throughout his life and died by suicide in 1924.
