Military working dog handlers provide proper shelter and nourishment for MWDs assigned to Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., Jan. 12, 2016. The average retirement age for a MWD is 10 years and once retired the MWD has two paths it can take; return to Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, to assist in the training of new handlers, or adoption.
