Lallie Charles, born Lallie Annie Lindon in 1869 and died in 1919, was a prominent English portrait photographer, best known for her work in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She gained recognition for her skill in capturing portraits of high society figures, including members of the British aristocracy. Lallie Charles was the daughter of a French mother and an English father. She married Hugh Cecil, a society photographer, in 1893 and the couple collaborated on many photographic projects. Lallie's work often featured socialites, actors and members of the aristocracy, and her portraits were characterised by a sense of elegance and style. During her career, Lallie Charles had studios in London and Paris and her photographs were featured in various publications of the time. She was noted for her ability to capture the personality of her subjects and for her use of natural light in her portraits. Lallie Charles died in 1919, but her contributions to portrait photography in the late 19th and early 20th centuries continue to be recognised as significant. Her work provides an insight into the world of high society during this period.
