In fact, he prefers them, knowing of one instancewhere a built-up crankshaft has stood the test of runningfrom 10,000 to 12,000 E.P.M. without breaking. Make ajig for the crank webs. Drill and ream these standard 14inch, and then procure some oversize drill rod (about 253thousandths) and drive this through the crank webs.Then pin and braze the joints, after which the portion ofthe shaft that is between the web can be sawed out andthe crankshaft cleaned and tiled up smooth. This pro-duces a very strong and rigid crankshaft with a minimumof trouble. Both types of crankshaft are shown in the drawingso that the builder can make either one.
