Remains of burned-out City Methodist Church in Gary, Indiana, one of America's most economically distressed cities

description

Summary

Title, date and keywords based on information provided by the photographer.

By 1975, when the Methodists left the building, its congregation had declined to 300 members. A second congregation occupied the building briefly but left in the early 1980s; some storefronts and office space were utilized. City Methodist was torched in what has become known as "the Great Gary Arson of 1997." It is now (2016) owned by the City of Gary.
