Summary
Sgt. Nathaniel Hawkins, a percussion instrumentalist with the Quantico Marine Band plays the timpani at the 2019 Summer Concert Series, at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, Triangle, Va., Aug. 29, 2019. Music plays a large part in military history, beginning with the establishment of the U.S. Marine Band in 1798. On Aug. 21, 1800, the Marine Band presented its first public concert in Washington, on a hill overlooking the Potomac.
