S124E010462 - STS-124 - CCD montior on flight deck

STS-96 Pilot Rick Douglas Husband checks the windows of the orbiter Discovery in the Orbiter Processing Facility bay 1 as a worker shines a light through them. The STS-96 crew is at KSC to take part in a Crew Equipment Interface Test. The other crew members are Pilot Rick Douglas Husband and Mission Specialists Ellen Ochoa (Ph.D.), Tamara E. Jernigan (Ph.D.), Daniel Barry (M.D., Ph.D.), Julie Payette and Valery Ivanovich Tokarev. Payette represents the Canadian Space Agency and Tokarev the Russian Space Agency. The primary payload of STS-96 is the SPACEHAB Double Module. In addition, the Space Shuttle will carry unpressurized cargo such as the external Russian cargo crane known as STRELA; the Spacehab Oceaneering Space System Box (SHOSS), which is a logistics items carrier; and an ORU Transfer Device (OTD), a U.S.-built crane that will be stowed on the station for use during future ISS assembly missions. These cargo items will be stowed on the International Cargo Carrier, fitted inside the payload bay behind the SPACEHAB module. STS-96 is targeted for launch on May 24 from Launch Pad 39B KSC-99pp0318

Summary

The original finding aid described this as:

Description: STS-82 Mission Specialists Joe Tanner (left) and Greg Harbaugh wearing liquid cooling and ventilation garments (LCVG) and communications carrier assembly (CCA) ``Snoopy cap`` in the external airlock (001-2). Payload Commander Mark Lee holds a procedures checklist inside the airlock (003-4). Tanner checks the Extravehicular Activity (EVA) stowage kit (005). Blurry view of Tanner holding a drink package (006). Harbaugh wearing LCVG with extra padding on shoulders and chest (007). Tanner (left) and Harbaugh drink from packages to prevent dehydration (008-10). Harbaugh wriggles into the Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) suit lower torso (011-13). Tanner smiles after donning the EMU lower torso (014-16). The legs of Mark Lee are visible in the open airlock hatch (017). Steve Smith works at the aft flight deck station communicating with the EVA astronauts (018-21). Mission Specialist Steve Hawley controls the Remote Manipulator System (RMS) arm at the aft flight deck station (022). View looking down at the two EVA astronauts inside the external airlock, Harbaugh on the left and Tanner on the right (with glasses) (023-26). Commander Ken Bowersox videotapes the airlock activity (027, 031). Lee passes a set of EVA tools into the airlock (028). Mass of EVA tools floating near Lee as he consults a checklist include the toolboard, Pistol Grip Tool (PGT), Power Ratchet Tool (PRT), Closed Circuit Television (CCT) camera and tethers (033-37). Mass of EVA tools floats in airlock hatch with Lee's socked feet visible (032). View looking into the open airlock hatch blocked by floating tools (029-30).
