Who is your Female Conservation Hero or Mentor? Nancy Gilbert of Fish and Wildlife Service

Where did you go to school or military branch?

UC- San Diego

What did you study?

Ecology, behavior, and evolution

How did you get interested in conservation?

As a kid, most of my family vacations involved camping and hiking so my love of the outdoors started early in life – When I got to college, I took several conservation biology classes and got a job working for the UC reserve system managing lands around UC- San Diego. This exposed me to life as a conservation biologist. When I finished my graduate work – I applied to the Fish and Wildlife Service and have been here ever since.

If you could have one incredible animal adaptation, what would it be?

I wish I could fly.
