The Repeal, or the Funeral of Miss Ame-stamp (BM 1868,0808.4377)

A smaller copy of a satire on the repeal of the Stamp Act and the administration of George Grenville (First Lord of the Treasury, April 1763-July 1765), for description and further information see J,1.85. There are some minor differences: the inscription over the doors of the tomb reads, "Within this Family Vault, Lie Interred, it is to be hoped nevert o rise again, The Star Chamber Court, Ship Money, Excise Money and all Imposts without Parliament, The Act de Haeretico Compurendo, Hearth Mon[ey], Gener[al] Warrants, And which tended to alienate the Affections of Englishmen to their Country; Scott's copy of his sermon has a longer description; the ribbon lettered "All of a Stamp" is omitted; there is no lettering on the coffin carried by Grenville; the title and a lengthy explanation are engraved below.
