At the Santa Fe R.R. tie plant, Albuquerque, N[ew] Mex[ico]. The ties made of pine and fir, are seasoned for eight months. The steaming black ties in the center have just come from the retort where they have been impregnated with creosote for eight hours. THE ROCKEFELLER DIVISION CROSSING, UNDER THE CHICAGO & NORTHWESTERN TRACKS AT LAKE BLUFF Electric turbo-units. The two of 3000-kw will be the only onesinstalled for the present. Additions will be made as the servicedemands. The turbines will be located in a single line down the middleof a central bay. An extension on one side will contain tworows of boilers, the coal bunkers being placed above the passagebetween the lines of boilers. Bus-bar structures, high-tension EXTERIOR OF NEW SUBSTATION waukee, each to be of 1000-kw capacity. Another will be builtat Highwood to replace the direct-current machines now beingoperated in the power house. The new sub-stations will be similar in design to that one just completed south ofKenosha, the illustration ofwhich shows the building tobe a brick structure com-paratively free of ornamen-tation. A storage batteryoccupies the south half ofthe building, while thenorthern portion containsthe rotary converters, trans-formers and other appa-ratus.
