U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' contractors begin construction
Summary
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' contractors begin construction on the temporary housing sites for the just south of Joplin Regional Airport, Joplin, Mo. The Corps began construction of the two community group sites that can accommodate up to 346 manufactured homes July 7. The community will include will include development of temporary gravel pads for housing foundations, emergency storm shelters, bus shelters, mailbox units, gravel and asphalt roadways and all utilities related to the infrastructure of the community, including a sewer system and waterline installation. The Corps envisions creating a community with an environment where people can live, not just sleep. The Corps is tracking a need for 622 temporary housing units and identified a possible third site for additional units.
