Summary
U.S. Marine Sgt. Maj. Dwight D. Jones (left), 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment sergeant major, and Lt. Col. Sean Riordan, 1/3 battalion commander, case their battalion colors during a transfer of authority ceremony at Forward Operating Base Delhi, Nov. 17. Jones is a native of Detroit. Riordan is a native of Montclair, Va. ‘The Lava Dogs,’ 1/3, transferred authority of Garmsir to ‘America’s Battalion,’ 3/3. During their seven-month deployment the Marines and sailors of 1/3 have helped Garmsir progress toward transitioning authority of the district to Afghan security forces and the Afghan government. The Lava Dogs, who arrived here mid-April, began the journey home to Marine Corps Base Hawaii in early November.
