Women's History Month - A woman standing next to a space shuttle
Summary
In 1987, Congress declared March as National Women’s History Month to celebrate the achievements of women. Colonel Eileen Collins, a C-141 Starlifter pilot, flew numerous military and humanitarian missions all over the world. Collins was selected by the National Aeronautical and Space Administration for training in 1990. Collins would eventually become the first female to pilot and command a space shuttle.
