August Sander (1876-1964) was a German photographer known for his portraits and documentary photographs of everyday life in Germany in the early 20th century. He is best known for his "People of the 20th Century" project, which aimed to document the diversity of German society through portraits of people from all walks of life. Sander's work was influenced by his interest in sociology and his belief in the importance of objective observation and documentation.
