Sketch on front page of Fort Smith Elevator covering the news of her conviction. In June 1895 a federal jury found her guilty of murdering her husband.
Lawrence Keating was a guard in the federal jail at Fort Smith. He was shot and killed by Crawford Goldsby (alias Cherokee Bill) when Goldsby attempted to escape from the jail on July 26, 1895.
The building on the right is the federal courthouse and was completed in 1890. From 1890-1896 Judge Parker heard cases in this building. On the left is the county courthouse.
