Amandinea punctata grows on the old dry wood of junipers and pinyon pines. Few lichens grow on trees or shrubs in the desert due to the low humidity.
Dermatocarpon americanum is common throughout Joshua Tree National Park, often growing on vertical rock surfaces.

A common yellow lichen on rocks in Joshua Tree is Candelariella aurella.
Lecidea hassei is a California endemic. The large known population occurs in the Mojave Desert in Joshua Tree National Park.

Verrucaria bernardinensis is the pale-colored lichen. It is growing out of the brown lichen, Staurothele monicae. Verrucaria bernardinensis steals the green algae from the brown lichen. It is a parasite.
Buellia spuria is one of many beautiful crustose lichens growing in washes on granite and gneiss outcrops.
Xanthoparmelia maricopensis is a foliose macrolichen. It is one of eight species of Xanthoparmelia found in Joshua Tree. It is especially common on the basalt boulder screes on Malapai Hill.
Buellia dispersa is common in the Mojave Desert. Mixed with other lichens, it grows on granite and gneiss.
Rhizoplaca chrysoleuca is frequent in the Mojave Desert on granite outcrops.
The orange Xanthoria elegans with its margin of loosely attached lobes is common in the Mojave Desert.
The orange Caloplaca durietzii is frequent in the Mojave Desert, growing on the dry wood of old junipers and pinyon pines.
