Champlevé ist eine Emailliertechnik, bei der Tröge oder Zellen geschnitzt, geätzt, gestanzt oder in die Oberfläche eines Metallgegenstandes gegossen und mit Glasschmelz gefüllt werden. Das Stück wird dann gebrannt, bis die Emaille verschmilzt, und nach dem Abkühlen wird die Oberfläche des Objekts poliert. Eine häufige Anwendung der Champlevé-Technik ist erstmals in der frühkeltischen Kunst in Europa ab dem 3. oder 2. Jahrhundert v. Chr. zu beobachten. Der Name kommt aus dem Französischen für "angehobenes Feld", was Hintergrund bedeutet, obwohl die Technik in der Praxis die zu emaillierende Fläche verringert, anstatt den Rest der Oberfläche anzuheben.
