Unter dem Kommando von Jacob Cornelisz van Neck stechen 1598 acht holländische Schiffe nach Indien in See. Die ersten vier kehrten ein Jahr später, am 19. Juli 1599, aus Bantam (Java) zurück. Die anderen Schiffe waren zu den Molukken (Maluku-Inseln) weitergefahren. Auch sie kehrten wohlbehalten und beladen mit Muskatnuss, Muskatblüte und Nelken zurück.
