160726-N-QW941-211 DA NANG, Vietnam (July 26, 2016) Da Nang Border Guard members simulate extinguishing a fire aboard a fishing vessel during a search and rescue field training exercise supported by Pacific Partnership 2016. Pacific Partnership worked collaboratively with the Da Nang People's Committee, the Border Guard and 115 Emergency Center to simulate a natural disaster scenario and supported their response to help rescue vessels and stranded people who'd been injured as a result of the disaster. Pacific Partnership also played a role in the medical portion of the exercise, helping evacuate casualties from the water and bringing them ashore for assessment and triage. Patients were then transported to hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) or Vietnam People's Navy ship Khánh Hóa for further care. Mercy and JS Shimokita (LST-4002) joined Khánh Hóa in Da Nang, marking the seventh time the mission visited Vietnam in the past eleven years.
