MEDITERRANEAN SEA (Feb. 24, 2018) U.S. Marines Corps 2nd Lt. Robert Solmssen, a platoon commander assigned to Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, prepares to catch an InstantEye Mark 2 small unmanned aircraft system (SUAS) aboard the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS New York (LPD 21), Feb. 24, 2018. The SUAS enhances the capabilities of the unit by providing real-time and lightweight intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance to the infantry while deployed to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations. U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
