2002 Artist-in-Residence, Marikay Peter Witlock
Summary
Marikay’s residency “combined solitude, beautiful and changing environment, and intensity of focus” to allow her to accomplish a magnificent feat: she produced 50 paintings as a result of her participation in the Artist-in-Residence program, culminating in a public exhibition and six major solo shows throughout the Midwest.
Marikay likes the residency experience to that of the early 19th and 20th century painters living and working in the French countryside: an incomparable and valuable experience allowing artists to bring the beauty of various locales to the public.
