208-PU-115-CC-12: Fleet Admiral William D. Leahy, USN, In New Uniform. William D. Leahy, USN, Chief of Staff to U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt is seen in his new uniform as Fleet Admiral of the U.S. Navy. The new rank entitles the admiral to a fifth star on his shoulder insignia and a fourth half-inch stripe on his sleeves. Fleet Admiral Leahy is one of three U.S. Navy men so ranked under recently enacted law. The others are Chester W. Nimitz, Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet and Pacific Ocean Areas, and Ernest J. King, Commander in Chief o of the U.S. Fleet and Chief of Naval Operations, December 1944.
