There have been, withinthe memory of man, rings in the walls to whichfiiips ufed to be faftened. The caftle now belongsto the crov/n. Five miles to the weftward of Flint is Holy-well, a confiderable town, confifting principallyof one long ftreet, in which there are not only feve-ral good inns, but many genteel houfes. It took itsname from a celebrated fpring, which, accordingto the Popifh legends, it is faid rofe miraculouflyfrom the blood of St. W inefrid, a chriftian vir-gin, who was raviflied and beheaded in this placeby a pagan tyrant.
