A local Afghan boy takes a drink from the babbling
Summary
A local Afghan boy takes a drink from the babbling brooks of the Kunar River April 11 in the Naray district of the province. Consuming dirty river water can cause illnesses like cholera, diphtheria and various other diseases. During a patrol April 11, leaders from Company C, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division delivered water filters to a girls’ school and women’s clinic to help combat the risks associated with the water. The filters were provided by a nonprofit organization called Waves for Water and if maintained properly, one $50 filter can supply a village of 200 people with clean drinking water for up to five years.
