description

Summary

A Marine with the Force Reconnaissance Detachment, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, draws a Marine Corps Close Quarters Battle pistol from his holster during a close quarters tactics range on the flight deck of the USS San Diego as part of Certification Exercise (CERTEX) off the coast of Southern California, June 15, 2014. These exercises keep the Marines operationally ready and hone their skills in combat marksmanship. CERTEX is the final evaluation of the 11th MEU and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group prior to deployment. The evaluation requires the Marines and sailors to plan and conduct integrated missions simulated to reflect real-world operations. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl Jonathan R. Waldman/Released)
