A New York Political Reconcentrado; A Pathetic Victim (title from the Detroit Journal)
Summary
This illustration entitled "A New York Political Reconcentrado; A Pathetic Victim (title from the Detroit Journal)", by cartoonist Clifford Berryman, which appeared in the Washington Post on April 11, 1898, compares the actions of Richard Croker, boss of New York's Tammany Hall, who's support of Senator Charles Murphy displaced Senator David B. Hill, to that of Spanish General Valeriano Weyler, nicknamed "the Butcher", who put civilians into reconcentration camps to crush the independence movement in Cuba. Here, Croker keeps control of greater New York away from Hill by putting him into a mini-reconcentration camp.
